Where the trousers began

The trouser is the foundation of every Veena Chauhan collection. Veena designed her first, P20, in 2012, and it went on to influence both Mara and Simone. Neither is a copy of P20: each has its own character and construction. She tells that story in The Foundation of the Trouser.

Simone

Simone sits at a true high waist on a 2 inch waistband finished with self-piping. Inverted pleats give it structure and movement, while the outer line stays clean. It is fitted through the waist and hip, and from there the leg falls wide and full length, tailored for a balanced drape.

Mara

Mara has a high waist too, with a single side inverted pleat that adds a little volume without disturbing the front. The leg is elongated and straight. At the hem, folded cuff pockets add a distinctive structural detail. Like Simone, it is fitted through the waist and hip, with a controlled drape.

Fit and sizing

Both run true to size and come in sizes 0 to 10, with a 32" inseam. The model is 5'10" and wears a size 2. The size chart on each product page gives the waist and hip for every size in inches and centimeters, and its note on the high waist suggests sizing down if you want a closer fit. Across the sizes sold, the chart runs from a 26 inch waist and 36 inch hip at size 0 to a 31 inch waist and 42 inch hip at size 10.

The measurement guide shows how each figure is taken: waist across the waistband, hip at the widest point of the seat, then front rise, inseam and leg opening.

Fabric and care

The shell is 100% polyester twill. Dry clean only, and store on a shaped hanger. Each piece is made in limited runs, and a new run begins only once the one before it is complete.
